At the mill
The sheet has to pass the sterilant and stop microbes, so porosity is set together with the maximum pore size your standard allows. The mill opens the sheet by refining less, keeping fewer fines and pressing lighter, and each of those moves costs strength and widens the pores. Wet strength comes from a resin added at the wet end, and it can affect how the sheet takes a seal coating or adhesive. Compliance and technical documentation is agreed per order against your standard.
